Day 5. Home. 12.2.26

Image
Just a short, around the bock, ride this morning ~6km. Today we are catching up with a couple, Peter and Debbie, from when Mark worked at a bank in Sydney 50 years ago. This is the reason we have come down to the Morton Bay area.  P&D picked us up and chauffeured us out for brunch and then to the sailing club to see all the boats. Their son is here for a sailing regatta. View from Manly. As my Galentines night was cancelled for tomorrow night we were going to move on to Woodford in the morning but with the massive amount of rain predicted from tonight we are going to head home this afternoon instead🙃☔ Storms are building, 10kms south of Kybong. Quick stop in Kybong  to have dinner with Matilda. We managed to beat the rain home! This short trip we drove 609 kms, rode 118 kms and walked a couple of kms. Map of all the places we visited on our ebikes.

Day 4. Thornside. 11.2.26

Overnight temperature was a warm 21.9° & 4mm of rain. Twas a tad warm at 8.30 this morning when we went for a ride, 27°. Our aim was to check out the old Lighthouse at Cleveland Point and a walk/cycle track park I found on WikiCamps.  Riding through Ormiston, Ruby Bay Marina,  Cleveland Point,  The view from Cleveland Point,  Stopped for a coldie at the Grand View Hotel.  All tracks were graded easy by someone with a different interpretation of easy than me!! The first part of the track we took was full of tree roots and was a bit above my skill level. We eventually found a paved track to Capalaba and took that.  The riding this week has been a lot of fun with various surfaces,  some undulations and great views. Today we rode 33kms. Pool time, lunch and a little rest was the order for the afternoon. The temperature was 32°

Day 3. Thornside 10.2.26

A warm night, the temperature only dropped to 23. 1°. Went exploring on the bikes. Beautiful cycle way all the way out to Lytton, via Lota, Manly and Wynnum, 30km. Trail through bushland in Lota. Manly harbour.  Manly pool. Perfect spot for a coffee break on the return journey in Wynnum.  We weren't even home for an hour before we decided to jump on the bikes again and ride out to Indigiscape, a native Botanical gardens, and the Bush Cafe for a light lunch, 25kms. Lots of short tracks. Giant Tallowood tree. Wetlands.  The ride home got a bit hot as the sun finally decided to come out. A paddle in the pool for half an hour soon cooled us down. We have ridden 55kms today. Top temp was 31.3°

Day 2. Thornside, Brisbane area 9.2.26

Image
After a little wander to get a coffee we packed up and departed early-ish as neither of us were hungry after last night's meal. We drove to wild horse mountain and shared a beautiful wrap and had really delicious freshly made juices for brunch from Kebab Coast. Set up and having a cuppa just after midday at Thornside Mobile Park. $60 per night with power, water, full amenities and a pool that was a welcome relief from the heat. Went for a ride out to Wellington Point.  Lovely flowers outside the vans door.  Today's top temperature was 29.5°, it felt hotter than that. We rode 22kms, using footpaths, cycle lanes and the Moreton Bay cycle way.

Day 1. Tiaro 8.2.26

Image
We're heading down Brisbane way for 4 nights and decided to leave a day early and stop the night in Tiaro. After setting up we had a little wander around and dinner at the Royal hotel. Food was very good and plentiful.  We  took the long way home to walk off a couple of calories.  The free camp isn't far from the Hwy but any road noise didn't keep us awake. Set up for the night. To avoid un-hitching the van end is hanging over a dry water channel. View of the free camp from the pub dining room.  Bit late but Merry Christmas 🤶  Travelled 64kms and the temperature dropped from 32° to 18° overnight.
